COLLEGE CREDIT FOR BOYS & GIRLS STATE JUNIOR COUNSELORS
Receive College Elective Leadership Credits (fully transferable elective credits to the accredited college you select post-high school) - Here's How:
'Citizens' attending these Boys & Girls State leadership programs can earn college Leadership Elective Credits (fully transferable elective credits to the accredited college you select post-high school with the concurrence of that institution and your Departmental Major) from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS). UCCS is accredited through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Please contact Bob Greene if you have any questions. Follow the instructions at the right to help you with your registration process. Complete the academic requirements below for your grade.

Academic Requirements:
We require you to submit a two-page typewritten reflection paper discussing the "life leadership lessons learned" as a result of your involvement in your State’s Summer Program. In addition to this effort, we request you send it to your appropriate sponsoring post or unit along with a short "Thank You" cover letter for their financial support and sponsorship. After that mailing, please do not forget to provide Dr. Ray Striler ( ) your 'instructor of record',an email attached copy the total package (reflection paper and 'thank you letter' ) not later than 30 July 2010.

For the 3-credit Citizenship Course (LEAD 152): Provide your instructor of record (Dr. Ray Striler: ) a copy of the post-attendance "Thank You" package described above. Your grade for this course will not be transcribed until a copy of the thank you letter and two-page reflection paper, cited above, is submitted by email, to your instructor of record. Your personal package will determine your final grade for this three-credit course. Please ensure that the documents are given a thorough grammar and spell check before emailing them to Dr. Striler.

For the 1-credit College Options Course (LEAD 161): In an email addressed to both the instructor of record, Dr. Ray Striler (), and Terry Wilfong at College Options Foundation (), describe how using the 'College Success 101' disc set made a difference in your college preparations. Any and all constructive improvement suggestions are appreciated. This emailed analysis to the College Options Foundation will determine the final grade received for this one-credit course.

A new 3-credit optional American Veterans-Profiles in Leadership Course (LEAD 164): This course is available for all participants wanting additional credit for an associated community service-learning project with their local sponsoring American Legion Post/American Legion Auxiliary Unit support. Please read the associated details for these three-credits at this link LEAD 164 and coordinate your effort with local American Legion Veteran, a local trusted High School Social Science Instructor, a local JROTC Instructor. Final papers and Instructor Verification for this effort must be submitted by email attachment to (Dr. Ray Striler – instructor of record).


Registration Essentials:
When you register, you'll have the option to register for these three elective leadership courses for a total of up to 7 college elective credits, LEAD 152 (three credits), LEAD 161 (one credit) and LEAD 164 (three credits).

You can register anytime between 1 April 2010 and 30 July 2010. The Tuition Rate is $65 per credit.

The college preparatory 2-CD-ROM package, COLLEGE SUCCESS 101, provided at a cost of $18, and is required to receive the one credit for LEAD 161 COLLEGE OPTIONS. You can order your 2-CD-ROM package, COLLEGE SUCCESS 101 by contacting Ms. Keirston Stepp at this email address: . Make sure Ms. Stepp acknowledges you are a UCCS registrant and have to pay for your 2-CD-ROM package.

The registration process takes approximately 2 days.

First, you will complete the Application for Extended Studies to receive a UCCS Student ID. Approximately 2 days later, you will receive your UCCS Student ID at the email address you entered when completing the Application for Extended Studies (check your Inbox or SPAM/Bulk mail folder).
Second, Once you have your Student ID, you will use it to request a UCCS PIN on or after 3 April 2010 by initiating your registration here. Plus read the UCCS tutition payment policy) please.

Finally, you can request your 'no-charge' official or unofficial student transcript(s) after your homework is received, but not earlier than 1 September 2010 and your grade is subsequently posted in your student files (on/after 1 August 2010). You request your transcript/grades via the UCCS Student Online Center with your UCCS Student ID and PIN.
